Police Station in Pfullingen, ongoing

In the »Unter den Wegen« development area on the southwestern edge of the town of Pfullingen, a new police station is to be built. Our design calls for a freestanding building of hybrid timber construction. The three-story volume accommodates the sloping terrain of the site and plainly reveals its structure to the outside.

Atop the concrete plinth that emerges from the slope is a two-story corpus whose facade is clearly articulated by a timber structure. The delicate construction with protruding photovoltaic panels imparts openness and lightness to the built form. The public reception area is located directly on the ground floor. The office areas above are interconnected by an atrium. The police officers on duty will usually enter the building through an internal courtyard that is designed as an extension of the ground-floor plinth. This is where the patrol cars are parked and where all the storage and technical rooms needed for police operations are located. The plinth, which appears to extend out from under the wooden structure, enriches the police station with an intensive green roof.
